Europeans: Raphael Glucksmann became a victim of a pro-China disinformation campaign

Raphael Glucksmann, head of PS-Place Publique’s list for the European elections, has been warned of a disinformation campaign targeting him on social media coming from accounts linked to China, his circle said on Tuesday. The head of the PS list “is the target of information maneuvers by pro-Chinese actors and comes from pro-China accounts that accuse him of being a Trojan horse for the Americans, in particular the CIA in Europe,” the security service confirmed. source.

The MEP was alerted to the campaign by government body Viginum, which is responsible for tracking disinformation during elections. “We will not allow ourselves to be intimidated,” the head of the PS list assured in response.

Raphael Glucksmann, who is riding favorably in the polls less than two months before the election, is in Beijing’s crosshairs over his commitment to the Uyghur Muslim minority. For this, he was subject to sanctions in 2021 by China, which, in particular, banned him from traveling within its territory.

Rumor of a connection with the CIA

The rumor of Raphael Glucksmann’s connection to the CIA has been circulating for years, but has resurfaced with greater urgency on social media in recent weeks, being shared by both the far right and the radical left.

It dates back to the politician’s time as an adviser to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, from the blitzkrieg between the small Caucasus country and Russia in 2008 to his defeat in the 2012 elections.

Raphael Glucksmann was also married to Mikheil Saakashvili’s former deputy interior minister Eka Zguladze. The relationship, which also brings him a share of “fake news spread by RN” even in the half-cycle of the European Parliament, is deplored by those around him, while he chairs the special committee on foreign interference in all democratic processes of the European Union.

The General Secretariat of Defense and National Security (SGDSN), an organization attached to Matignon and on which Viginum depends, recently warned against attempts by foreign interference in the June 9 elections. The campaign against Raphael Glucksmann is currently the first to be publicly known.
