European elections 2024: how to make a proxy for June 9 voting

A long-planned family celebration, a concert on the other side of the country or an exam as part of your studies? This is not an excuse. If you are unable to be present to vote in the European elections on Sunday 9 June, all you need to do is create a proxy to vote. Here’s how to do it.

Before you execute a power of attorney, get to know the person to whom you are going to give the power of attorney. You need to know a few things about him: either the identity (including secondary names) of your proxy agent, his date of birth and where he voted, or his date of birth and his voter ID number. Once you have these elements, you can complete the procedure online.

The simplest thing: the procedure is carried out online

The first step is very simple: connect to the government website maprocuration.gouv.fr to complete the procedure. From there you need to log in to your France Connect account, which you can usually access through Imposs.gouv.fr, ameli.fr or even your post office digital identity.

This will confirm that you are the initiator of the process and pre-fill your identification information. You must then enter the municipality in which you are voting, followed by information about your representative so that the site accurately identifies him. The last point: the period for which you give a power of attorney, namely only the vote on June 9, or another, longer period.

Identity check in France or at the police station

Well done, you’ve made your proxy! The process has yet to be completed. You will usually receive an email with information about a link to your file to contact the appropriate authorities. There are two options available to you to complete the process: one is 100% digital, the other requires you to visit a police station.

To use the dematerialized option, you must have the France Identity application, which means you have an identity document in bank card format, in circulation since March 2021. Using the application, you will be able to complete the verification of your identity and also complete the procedure.

If this is not the case, we are back to the good old methods: all you have to do is go to the police station or gendarmerie of your choice (including outside your constituency) with a valid ID and certificate. your proxy request file. You can also go to court where you live. In these three cases, you will be accepted by a sworn officer to complete your case. You will immediately receive an email confirming the successful completion of your process.

If you don’t want to go online

If you prefer to complete the procedure without using the Internet, you can collect a paper form to fill out and return it to the gendarmerie, police station, judicial court (competent for your electoral municipality) or go directly to one of these places to fill it out. what to do with officers if you are unable to print this form. All necessary procedures are described in detail on the website service-public.fr.

As for the deadline, the sooner the better, warn the authorities: “You risk not voting if the mayor’s office does not receive your proxy on time or does not have the necessary time to take it into account. » So, if possible, take the time on Friday evening less than 48 hours before the election to complete procedures.
