Legislature: How this post-nomination blitz will unfold

The campaign is in full swing. Ahead of the early legislative elections on June 30 and July 7, candidates had until 6 pm this Sunday to submit their files in duplicate to the prefecture. In 2022, 6,293 candidates entered the first round, with an average of about 11 candidates per district.

When nominating a candidate, candidates must indicate which political party they belong to. Before approving the file, the prefecture checks that the candidate is not in a case of disqualification or incapacity provided for by law, the Ministry of the Interior website indicates.

Across France, prefectures remained open this Sunday for the latest applications. The parties, for their part, must submit to the Ministry of Internal Affairs a complete list of candidates nominated for the elections.

June 17: official campaign starts.

Bovo reminds us that there is usually a campaign period “that lasts six months leading up to the election.” This year they will be reduced. The official election campaign, “with stricter rules,” will begin this Monday and end on Friday, June 28 at 11:59 p.m.

During these two weeks, candidates’ programs will be available on the website vie-publique.fr. There will also be “an official campaign on radio and television for parties nominating candidates.” In addition, in each municipality special places are reserved for the screening, according to a small ceremony to determine the order of presentation.

Also on this day, commissions were created responsible for ensuring the dispatch and distribution of all election campaign documents. Applicants have until Tuesday to submit their confessions of faith, which will be available from Wednesday on the Home Office website and then sent by post.

The timing of political parties’ appearances on television and radio began on June 11, following a decision by the Audiovisual and Digital Communications Regulatory Authority (Arcom). To ensure “fair” access to airtime, media outlets must count speaking times and submit them to Arcom.

June 30: first round of voting

To be elected in the first round of voting, which will take place on Sunday, June 30, you must receive an absolute majority of the votes cast and a number of votes equal to a quarter of registered voters.

In constituencies where voters did not choose a candidate in the first round, a second round will be held on Sunday, July 7. The first-place candidate and the second-place candidate, as well as any candidate who receives at least 12.5% ​​of the votes registered on the voter rolls, will be considered qualified.

The second round election campaign will begin on July 1 and will last until midnight on Friday, July 5. Voting will take place on Sunday, July 7. And from July 6 in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana and French Polynesia.
