“I have a Jewish ophthalmologist”: RN candidate in Mayenne legislative elections denies being racist

“I have a Jewish ophthalmologist. And my dentist is Muslim.” On Sunday evening, the first round of the early legislative elections, the National Rally candidate in Mayenne, Paul Veyre de Soras, made questionable statements in a video by local media outlet leglob-journal.

When she was in the gardens of the Laval prefecture, on election night, she was questioned about the “racist, xenophobic, fascist” origins of the far-right party. “It’s a lie, an absolute lie!” In the National Rally, we have Jews, Muslims, Spaniards,” she insists, looking into the camera.

“I am a Catalan myself”

And he added: “I am Catalan myself, my grandfather was born in Barcelona. My ophthalmologist is Jewish. And my dentist is Muslim.” In the rest of the video, she also insists that the RN has changed since its founding by Jean-Marie Le Pen.

The candidate for the first electoral district of Mayenne, Paule Veyre de Soras, advanced to the second round with 28.59% of the vote. On July 7, she will face the candidate of the New Popular Front, Guillaume Garaud, who came in first with 45.39% of the vote.
