There are those who must go through the most difficult situations to achieve their dreams, but without ever giving up. That is the case of Maxence Parrot, a young athlete from Canada who has won the gold medal in the Olympic Games Beijing 2022 after battling cancer.

Parrot won the gold medal in the men’s snowboard final in the slopestyle category, during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, last February 7. However, behind the success of the 27-year-old Canadian athlete there is a story of overcoming worthy of a movie.

Between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 Parrot was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, so he had to interrupt his sports career to receive the necessary treatments to get rid of this disease. He had to undergo 12 chemotherapy sessions in a period of 6 months.

“Exactly 3 years ago, I was lying in a hospital bed with no muscles and no energy. Three years later, I am on the top step of the podium at the Olympics. It means a lot and is proof that everything is possible in lifeParrot told the Canadian outlet Journal de Quebec.

“For three years I haven’t taken a day off and today I am reaping the fruits of my effort (…) I am very proud of myself, of my career, which was the best of my career. I have never done such a difficult and perfect descent”, added the Canadian snowboarder.

Parrot had it clear and he had set out to win gold after winning the silver medal in the same discipline at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea. Although she had to deal with cancer in the process, she knew how to overcome it and fulfill his dream.
