Eternal: Gianluigi Buffon renewed his contract and ensures activity until he is 46 years old

Gianluigi Buffon, 44, has extended his contract with Parma for two more seasons, a club in which the former captain of the Italian national team will stay until 2024, the Serie B team (Italy’s second division) announced on Monday. .

“’Gigi’ is a great player, one of the three best goalkeepers in Italy, and his renewal is a great pleasure for us”declared the president of Parma, Kyle Krause. “His passion and dedication to Parma and the city are evident”added the senior manager.

Buffon, who will play professionally until at least the age of 46, returned to Parma from Juventus this season, two decades after leaving the club where he began his professional career in 1995.

The experienced goalkeeper has a record 176 appearances for the Italian national team and also holds the record for most Serie A games played, with 657, since his start with Parma in 1995, at the age of 17.

In his record he has 27 trophies throughout his glorious career, including the 2006 World Cup with the Italian team (final against France in Germany) and the 1999 UEFA Cup won with Parma.

He also managed to win the French league during the 2018/2019 season with Paris Saint-Germain, before returning to Juventus. With the Turin team he won 10 Serie A titles and five Italian Cups, but has never managed to win the Champions League, having lost the finals in 2003, 2015 and 2017.

Parma, one of the best teams in Italy in the 1990s, was relegated to the Italian second division last season, after finishing bottom of Serie A. The club is currently 13th in Serie B.

Buffon’s team, with 32 points in the Italian promotion table, is nine points above the playoffs for permanence and 14 for direct relegation. At the same time, Parma is nine units below the position that gives them the possibility of playing in the knockout rounds to tempt the return to Serie A.
