Ukraine at the UN General Assembly: “If Ukraine does not survive, neither will the United Nations”

The government of Ukraine On Monday, he demanded support from the international community from the United Nations, stressing that if the country does not survive the Russian invasion, neither will the UN itself.

”If Ukraine does not survive, international peace will not survive. If the Ukraine does not survive, the United Nations will not survive either. Don’t get your hopes up”said the Ukrainian ambassador to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsyato the rest of the Member States, gathered in the General Assembly.

Kyslytsya compared the conflict with the start of World War II and the Russian president, Vladimir Putinwith the then German leader, Adolf Hitler.

“The course of action of Russia it is very similar to the one that his mentors from the Third Reich used on Ukrainian soil eighty years ago,” he assured.

“This war has not been provoked. She was chosen by someone who is sitting in a bunker right now. We know what happened to the person who was in a bunker in Berlin in May 1945.” insisted.

The Ukrainian ambassador tried to describe during his speech the horrors of the ongoing war and, to illustrate them, he read an alleged exchange of messages between a Russian soldier and his mother shortly before he was killed in the fighting.

“Mom, I’m in Ukraine, there is a real war here. I am scared. We are bombing all cities, including civilians. They told us that we would be welcomed and they are throwing themselves in front of our armored vehicles, under the wheels, so as not to let us pass. They call us fascists. This is very hard”he said, citing an alleged message from the soldier.

Kyslytsyawho denounced indiscriminate attacks by Russia against Ukrainian cities, he demanded from the UN General Assembly a condemnation of the Russian actions and a call to stop hostilities and withdraw its forces.

The Assembly is expected to vote on a draft resolution to this effect this week, during the special emergency session that began today, after being requested on Sunday by the Security Council in response to the decision to Russia to veto a pronouncement by that body.

The Russian ambassador to the UN, Vasili Nebenzia, spoke today in the Assembly immediately after his Ukrainian counterpart and insisted on Moscow’s version, which defends that it is not carrying out a war against the neighboring country, but rather trying to pacify a conflict –the one in eastern Ukraine– which has been going on for years.

”The Russian Federation did not start these hostilities. They were launched by Ukraine against its own residents in the donbas and those who disagree. Russia seeks to end this war,” Nebenzia said.

The Russian diplomat, who denounced the alleged “misinformation” about the conflict, blamed Kiev and the Western powers for the conflict and made it clear that for Moscow a possible accession of Ukraine to NATO is a “red line”.
