With the loss of Damián Díaz: Barcelona SC’s list to face Universitario

Lima, February 28, 2022Updated on 02/28/2022 06:59 pm

Barcelona SC traveled to Lima this Monday afternoon, with a delegation made up of a total of twenty-one players, to face Universitario de Deportes for the Copa Libertadores. In the list, there is no Damián Díaz, one of the figures of the Ecuadorian team.

Although the Ecuadorian nationalized Argentine midfielder had already served his two-game ban in the first leg in Guayaquil and was therefore available, his absence this time is due to a muscle injury, which also forced him to miss the duel against University Technician last weekend, for the domestic league.

Also on the payroll is Brazilian Leonai Souza, who was replaced in the second half of the recent Barcelona SC match due to discomfort, and trained differently this Monday.

For the commitment at the National Stadium in Lima, Jonathan Mejía and Segundo Castillo will direct the Ecuadorian team on an interim basis, after the departure of Fabián Bustos and despite the fact that Jorge Célico was already announced as the new coach of the “Idol”.

“It’s an important team, one of the greats of Peruvian football, which put up a fight here at the Monumental and Wednesday’s game is not going to be easy at all for Barcelona”said Célico, in his official presentation this Monday.

After the victory (2-0) in the first leg, Barcelona SC will visit Universitario this Wednesday, March 2, in the second leg of Phase 2 of the Copa Libertadores. The game is scheduled for 7:30 pm (Peruvian time).
