The military attacks of Russia to Ukraine which began on February 24, had repercussions throughout the world. Various sports personalities ask for peace, one of them the former Ukrainian striker, Andriy Shevchenkowho for the second time makes a call to end the attacks.

In an interview with the international channel Sky Sports, Andriy said: “First of all, I want to ask my country, the army, the president, to do everything possible to defend Ukraine from Russian aggression. I am very proud to be Ukrainian.”

“This is a very difficult time for my nation, for my people and for my family. There are people dying, children dying, missiles aimed directly at our homes. We have to stop this war, we have to find some way”.

“I try to talk to them every hour, every 20 minutes. Many things are happening. Kharkiv is being bombed, Kiev is being attacked… There are many cities in Ukraine going through the same thing. My mother and sister, like most Ukrainians, do not want to leave, they want to stay fighting for our freedom.”added the former AC Milan player.

Russia out of Qatar

Due to the attacks, FIFA decided to remove Russia from the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The Russian team was going to play the playoff match against Poland, a team that had already expressed its refusal to play the match.

The Russian Football Federation will file a claim with the TAS, in which they will indicate that the decision was due to pressure from other countries, in addition to not having a legal basis.
