The European Leagues or Association of European Professional Football Leagues decided to expel the Russian first league and the Russian national football league for the attack it is carrying out on Ukraine, it reported in a statement on its Twitter account.

“The board of directors of the Association of European Professional Football Leagues decided today to expel the Russian First League (ordinary member) and National Football League (associate member) from the association due to the current extraordinary and tragic circumstances,” wrote.

The Asociation “shares solidarity with all affected people in Ukraine and hopes that the situation in the country will soon return to normal,” add in note.

In a tweet on February 25, a day after Russia launched its offensive in the neighboring country, the Association of European Professional Football Leagues has already condemned “the brutal actions of the war” in Ukraine, and reiterated its principles of “tolerance, respect and peace as essential values of society and in sport”.

Previously also FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national teams and clubs to participate in competitions of both federations. Proof of this is that the Champions League final will finally be played at the Stade de France in Paris.

The decision to change the venue came after the UEFA Executive Committee decided to move it from the Grazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg, where it was initially planned, due to the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine.
