Barcelona, outside the salary limit: it is the only LaLiga team with a negative balance

Financial problems in Barcelona in the midst of a good sporting moment. The Catalan club has seen the salary limit imposed by LaLiga fall from 97 million to -144 million euros (from 106 to -158 million dollars) since last September, while Real Madrid remains the entity with the most margin.

Against the azulgranas, the meringues maintain their limit from last September at 739 million euros (861 million dollars), according to LaLiga figures released this Monday after the update made after the January market.

Barça, immersed in a very delicate economic situation, had already seen its salary limit fall by 70% last September compared to January 2021, going from 382 million euros (445 million dollars) to 97 million euros.

The new drop was due to the fact that the losses registered by the Barça team were greater than those that LaLiga had estimated in September when it calculated the previous limit.

“In the case of Barcelona, 242 million euros of losses were estimated less than those obtained”, explained the corporate general director of LaLiga, Javier Gómez, this Monday at a press conference.

“It comes out negative because the losses that Barcelona has are greater than the capacity to generate resources” of the club, added Gómez, who made it clear that Barça has to generate income and accounting capital gains to improve its limit.

Updated several times throughout each season, the salary cap is the amount that clubs can spend on players, head coach, assistant coach and first-team physical trainer, as well as spending on affiliates, academy and other sections.
