Juan Pablo Varillas advanced to the round of 16 of the Concepción Challenger 2 in Chile

The competition for Juan Pablo Varillas (ATP: 117) does not stop and this Tuesday he reaped a new victory, in the round of 32 of the ATP Challenger Tour of Concepción 2, in Chile. In that round, the Peruvian beat Argentine Santiago Fa Rodríguez Taverna (ATP: 226) 2-1, after two hours and seven minutes of play.

The confrontations of these tennis players was very even, which was reflected in the extended first set. From the beginning, the athlete representing Argentina had a point of superiority, until he made a mistake when the score was 4-4: he lost his serve and allowed his opponent to come back.

In this way, Juan Pablo Varillas was one step away from giving the coup de grâce, but he did not take advantage and history determined a 6-6, forcing a tie-break. This time, in the decisive tiebreaker, the Peruvian was more forceful and took advantage little by little, until sealing the partial 7-2 (7-6 on aggregate).

For the second set, our first national racket started winning, until he lost serve (3-3) and Rodríguez Taverna came back: he won 4-6 and tied the series. There was a lot of tension for the final game and the experience of the athlete defending the ‘Blanquirroja’ was paramount.

‘Juanpi’ started winning again, although he was only able to extend his minimum advantage when he was looking for his fifth point (5-3) and was one step away from victory. Finally, the Peruvian was precise and, after a tight definition, achieved the culminating 6-3.

In this way, Juan Pablo Varillas enters the round of 16 of the ATP Challenger Tour of Concepción 2 and is now ready to face the Argentine Andrea Collarini (ATP: 245), who has just eliminated his compatriot Nicolás Kicker.
