Argentina will no longer play friendly with Mexico, for sharing the same World Cup group

The Argentine national team is going through a great footballing present and will seek to have a great role in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. In this sense, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) was planning the preparation of the team and contemplated having, at least, a friendly against Mexico (in the United States), but it was finally canceled.

The reason for canceling the meeting has to do with the draw for the initial phase of the World Cup: Argentines and Mexicans will face each other in Group C of the contest. According to the draw, the aforementioned teams from the American continent will compete with Saudi Arabia and Poland, in search of the two tickets to the round of 16.

Lionel Scaloni, coach of the Argentine team, was the first to confirm that the match was no longer going to take place. “It fell and it’s time to find another one. He was the only one who was safe and now we will see something else, but without a doubt it is not an important thing about friendlies or facing rivals”, explained the DT.

“I think we know how we want to play. It is logical that we would like to prepare the World Cup with activity. If it is not possible to do it with opponents of this category, then it remains to find another”, he added.

Finally, Lionel Scaloni referred to the duel with Mexico in the World Cup. “It is a rival that we know, which is historically difficult. We have respect for everyone, we believe we can do a good round of groups. I suffered them in 2006, when they played a great game for us and we won it in extra time, with a goal from Maxi Rodríguez. It has a World Cup tradition”, he sentenced.
