Celtic win 52nd Scottish league title, Ajax crowned for 36th time in the Netherlands

Overtaken by Rangers last year, Celtic won their 52nd Scottish league title on Wednesday, their 10th title in 11 seasons. The 1-1 draw against Dundee United was enough for Ange Postecoglou’s men to mathematically assure them of finishing the season top of the league, with just one day left to play. Rangers will have to settle for second place this time.

This coronation validates the place of the Hoops for the group stage of the next Champions League, which Scotland recovered after the exclusion of Russian teams from European competitions. Celtic, winners in 1967, have not appeared there since 2017. Ajax will also be there.

Winner 5-0 of SC Heerenveen on Wednesday, the Amsterdam club were crowned champions of the Netherlands for the 36th time in their history. Titled for the third time in a row, Ajax are four points ahead of their runner-up, PSV Eindhoven, with one day to go. Ajacid coach Erik ten Hag will be able to take charge of Manchester United with a sense of accomplishment.
