Borré fell inside the area: VAR did not sanction a penalty in Eintracht vs. rangers

Eintracht Frankfurt has been more aggressive against Rangers, in the Europa League final, but so far there has been no precision. At the start of the second half, Rafael Santos Borré led one of the ‘Eagles’ attacks, fell inside the area, after a cross from Connor Goldson, and called for a penalty, although the VAR ultimately did not sanction.

The clock was approaching 52 minutes and the German club had a goal kick, amid the pressure exerted by the rival team. Given the lack of space, goalkeeper Kevin Trapp decided to take a long shot, which went right to the center circle of the Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium field.

The ball was divided and Sebastian Rode, captain of Eintracht Frankfurt, knew how to impose conditions, enabling Rafael Santos Borré with a header. The ‘Comandante’ controlled the ball and quickly headed towards the Rangers area, taking advantage of the fact that the defenders were well ahead.

However, the Colombian was losing speed and, before Connor Goldson’s mark, he chose to lie on the right, inside the small rectangle. Immediately, the former River Plate player tried to hook, almost on the bottom line, but ended up falling due to a slight touch. The squad of the ‘Eagles’ claimed a penalty.

Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić was close to the action and did not award the penalty, a decision that was backed up by VAR a few moments later. At the moment, the Europa League final remains tied without goals, although Eintracht Frankfurt shows superiority over Rangers.
