“What has been set up is a media circus”: the response from Ecuador for the case of Byron Castillo

The case of Byron Castillo is still pending resolution. From Chile, the allegations continue that the soccer player is Colombian by birth and not Ecuadorian. In the midst of this, the president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation, Francisco Egas, announced that he does not rule out taking legal action from the body he directs, against the National Association of Professional Football (ANFP).

“The affectation is great both to the name of the country, as well as to the name of the federation, as well as to that of our authorities and, of course, that of the player”Egas said on the Radio La Red station, where he reiterated that Ecuador has not broken any regulations.

“If (the case) lends itself to initiating any legal action to repair all this damage, have no doubt that we will pursue it because we are really hurt by what the ANFP of Chile has done”Egas insisted.

In May, the ANFP of Chile denounced Ecuador before FIFA for an alleged improper alignment of Byron Castillo in the South American Qualifiers for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, a maneuver with the intention of reaching a quota for the World Cup in the event of a possible sanction. for the Tricolor.

The complaint is based on the fact that Castillo presented alleged false documents in the trial held last year, where his nationality and his Ecuadorian origin were confirmed, after years of doubts and rumors that he was born in Colombia.

“The Federation was very careful in this case. While the player had a dispute about the consistency of his documents, not about his nationality, the Federation refrained from summoning him ”Egas recalled.

“Once the decision of the Ecuadorian Justice and the competent bodies was final and indicated that the player should have all the rights of any Ecuadorian citizen, there was no reason not to summon him”he added.

The top leader of the FEF assured that both the ANFP and the lawyer hired by it, the Brazilian Eduardo Carlezzo, “They have been little responsible.”

“It saddens me a lot because what has been set up is a media circus around this issue, mainly by the ANFP and its lawyer, who seems to believe that this game is played from the media and sowing doubts in the public”sentenced.
