Alarms lit in Ecuador: Gonzalo Plata was injured and in tears | VIDEO

The alarms are on in the selection of Ecuador. The reason is none other than the injury suffered by Gonzalo Plata in this Saturday’s friendly match against Cape Verde, at the DRV PNK Stadium, located in Florida. The footballer had to leave the field on a stretcher and in tears.

The action that forced him to withdraw from the field occurred after a clash with a rival. At minute 86, Plata left his place to Alexander Alvarado, who had a sore left leg. Surely, in the next few hours, the athlete will undergo tests to determine the severity of the damage.

Plata, who in the recent season was on loan at Real Valladolid from Sporting Lisboa, started against Cape Verde. The former member of Independiente del Valle formed the attack, also made up of Ángel Mena, Jordy Caicedo and Jeremy Sarmiento.

Triumph with Byron Castillo on the pitch

Ecuador defeated Cape Verde 1-0 this Saturday in a difficult preparation duel played in the United States, in which Byron Castillo participated after FIFA dismissed a complaint from Chile about an alleged false nationality of the defender.

A Jordy Caicedo penalty in the 38th minute gave the Ecuadorians the lead at Drive Pink Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

With this match, the ‘Tricolor’ closed its first warm-up cycle in which it won two victories and one draw. At the start of the friendlies, the team led by Argentine Gustavo Alfaro beat Nigeria 1-0 and then drew goalless with Mexico.

Ecuador is part of Group A of the 2022 World Cup together with the host Qatar, Senegal and the Netherlands. Cape Verde, for its part, disputes the qualifier for the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
