Al Khelaifi on the possibility of Zidane becoming PSG’s new coach: “I have never spoken to him”

He closed any type of speculation regarding the former Real Madrid coach. Al Khelaifi assured that he never had communication with Zinedine Zidane to be the new PSG coach. The president of the Parisian club ruled out the possibility of ‘Zizou’ and maintained that he hopes to “quickly reach an agreement” with Christophe Galtier.

“I love Zidane. He was a fantastic player, of incredible class and an exceptional coach with three Champions Leagues, but I have never spoken to him, directly or indirectly.” declared the president of the club, in an interview to the newspaper Le Parisien.

Al Khelaifi assured that PSG wants to get away from the nouveau riche image and that this has also had to do with the choice of coach: “We have chosen a coach who will be the best for what we want to put into practice.”

“We negotiated with Nice, it’s not a secret, and I hope we quickly reach an agreement, but I respect Nice and President Jean-Pierre Rivère, each one defends their interests”, added the Qatari leader.

Al Khelaifi assured that they want to end the image that PSG is just a set of stars: “We want players who love the club, who like to fight, who love to win. The new coach will have to create a true team, rediscover a true collective spirit”.

In the interview, the leader does not mention at any time the name of the Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, who at least officially remains the PSG coach and who has one year left on his contract.

On the other hand, the manager was consulted by Leonardo, sports director of the entity until his recent dismissal: “We wish him the best. That’s how football is. I know that many clubs are going to be interested in him because he has a lot of experience”.
