Diego Godín after being made official as a Vélez Sarsfield player: “I know I can contribute a lot”

With an original presentation by music producer Bizarrap, Vélez Sarsfield from Argentina announced on Tuesday the hiring of Diego Godín. After that, the experienced defender of the Uruguayan National Team gave statements to ESPN.

“From my place I come to work a lot. To try to lead by example, to respect all my colleagues equally and try to be one of the team quickly. And help, help especially on the pitch, that’s the most important thing. Here you have to be fine because you don’t look at the document. A 20-year-old kid comes and passes you over, ” Godin said.

The Uruguayan defender was firm with his answer regarding the reason why he decided to sign for the ‘Fortín’: “Because I love soccer, because I want to be well, to come to work in Vélez. I know that I can contribute a lot in Vélez and that Vélez can give me a lot. I have a short and medium-term goal, which is the World Cup. I have to get to that moment in the best possible way, competing in Vélez and helping the team”.

He also commented that some Uruguayan soccer players spoke to him about Argentine soccer and told him “which is dynamic, competitive football, with a high level of intensity. They always encouraged me to come, that it would be fine, that I would feel comfortable. We hope to do things well and give joy to the people of Vélez who trusted me”.

The player, who has just terminated his contract with Atlético Mineiro in Brazil, responded through his social networks that “on the way and looking forward to it”. It will be his first experience in Argentine soccer. Godín, 36, signed a contract until December 2023.
