‘Rey Martínez’ canceled fight with McWilliams Arroyo: the Mexican’s justification and the Puerto Rican’s anger

The fight between Julio César Martínez and McWilliams Arroyo was the highlight of the day to take place this Saturday June 25 in San Antonio, Texas in the United States. However, the Mexican, flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council, will not appear in the ring to face the Puerto Rican due to health problems.

The news was confirmed by Mauricio Sulaimán, the president of the World Boxing Council, through a message on social networks. “We deeply regret that the WBC confirms that the WBC flyweight champion, Julio César Martínez, has withdrawn from the fight against the interim WBC champion, McWilliams Arroyo. The exact details have not yet been revealed. WBC will be addressing this terrible situation.”he expressed.

Immediately, also through his official accounts, “King” Martínez gave details of the situation that led him to make such a decision. “We are still in the hospital, an apology for what is happening, I do not have things in my hands, it gave me a very strong infection”expressed the Aztec. “I don’t know if I’ll stay hospitalized, but what I do know is that I’m willing to face whoever it is and well, words are unnecessary”he added.

To close, the owner of the monarch assured that he aims to win the championships when he recovers. “Things are not talked about, they are shown. I thank God and my team that never leave me alone and I go for everything. With facts you will know very soon who ‘King’ is and sorry, my people, this is just beginning and we are going for all those belts “hill.

On his side, McWilliams Arroyo did not take long to speak out and pointed to ‘King’ Martínez. “He does one of his again and again my career has to be stopped due to irresponsibility of both him and his team… For me what happened is a tragedy, since they were left with the desire, like me, to demonstrate everything the sacrifice for this fight”.

Then, Arroyo recalled that he was prepared to face the fight and before the unexpected cancellation, the Puerto Rican wants to know what will happen. “We expect a prompt and fair decision from the WBC because we know how serious Mr. Mauricio and his entire team are”he concluded in a statement issued on his social networks.

Martínez and Arroyo were going to meet again, after the fight in November of last year ended in No Contest (without decision). The Puerto Rican suffered a cut on his right eyelid and the fight doctor indicated that the fighter could not continue in competition. Previously, in 2020 and 2021, the “King” canceled his matches against the Puerto Rican due to a fist injury and flu, respectively.
