Cardona, after testing positive for alcohol, will no longer play with Racing in the tournament

Racing Club is on fire in the fight for the title of the Professional League and this Friday it will face a key duel against Colón de Santa Fe, visiting. However, the week has not been calm inside the club: Edwin Cardona tested positive during a breathalyser test at dawn last Wednesday.

The Colombian midfielder, who has already been immersed in controversial situations in the past, caused annoyance in the technical command and Fernando Gago, the coach, has made a drastic decision. In the first instance, as was presumable, the footballer was left out of the squad list for the clash against the ‘Sabaleros’.

However, it is not the only determination of the strategist. As revealed by Olé, DT will not have Cardona again for the remainder of the tournament and, in addition to the sporting aspect, an economic sanction is expected. In this way, Edwin will miss the upcoming duels, apart from Colón, against Lanús and River Plate.

In the same way, the Racing Club leadership is already analyzing letting the 29-year-old player leave from next season, despite having a contract until December 2024. In the ‘Academy’ they hope to recover a fraction of the 3 million dollars invested in the signing of the Colombian (he arrived from Tijuana).

In this 2022, at the local level, Edwin Cardona has played 23 games (nine as a starter) and his offensive records have not been as expected: he only has two goals and one assist.
