Qatar plans special zones for drunk fans to sober up during World Cup

There is little more than a month left for the start of the World Cup and the expectation grows as time goes by. The appointment will be in Qatar, the first Arab nation to host an event of this magnitude. From this, some doubts continue about the restrictions that will be during the competition.

One of them is about alcohol consumption. On the subject, Nasser Al Khater, president of the organizing committee of the World Cup, revealed that the creation of special zones has been planned so that those who drank too much can sober up and not be a danger to others.

“There are plans for people to get sober if they have been drinking heavily. It’s a place to make sure they stay safe, that they’re not harmful to anyone else.” told the executive director for the realization of Qatar 2022, in an interview with Sky Sports.

Al Khater also stressed that there will be areas where the purchase and consumption of alcohol will be allowed. “Alcohol is available in Qatar. It’s more limited than maybe other countries in the world, whether it’s in Europe, the United States, but it will be more available in designated areas in Qatar. We have it in designated areas, as we promised from day one.” pointed.

On the other hand, the Qatari referred to people belonging to the LGTB community who decide to attend the World Cup. “We have said that everyone is welcome here. But we ask for respect for our culture. “Everyone is welcome and everyone will feel safe in Qatar”, he expressed.
