Jérôme Boateng appears on appeal at the Munich court, after his conviction for domestic violence

Surprise holder, Sunday in Rennes (3-2), Jérôme Boateng was the big absentee from the training led by Laurent Blanc, this Thursday, but not because of yet another physical glitch. Very disappointing since his arrival at Olympique Lyonnais at the end of the 2021 summer transfer window, the 34-year-old German international is back for two days at the Munich court. He is indeed appearing in the context of the domestic violence case against his former girlfriend.

On September 9, 2021, he was found guilty of intentional assault and battery for facts dating back to a vacation in the Caribbean in 2008, and ordered to pay 1.8 million euros in damages to his ex-companion. As stated in the German newspaper Picturethis verdict of the district court was not important enough according to the prosecution, who appealed, and who would ask for a suspended prison sentence of one and a half years.

The lawyer for the former major player of Bayern, Kai Walden, wanted at the same time an acquittal of his client, and also appealed. Jérôme Boateng should still appear on Friday in Bavaria, before joining the Lyon group. Laurent Blanc has thus just indicated at a press conference that his experienced defender was going to “apply” to play OL’s next match in Ligue 1, Saturday (5 p.m.) in Montpellier.
