Diego Elías shone in the October tournaments: PSA World Tour awarded him player of the month

Diego Elías’s performances in squash have been outstanding, which is why he became a regular protagonist in the different tournaments of the season. Precisely, due to his good level, the Peruvian athlete remains within the Top 5 in the world in this discipline and was recognized by the PSA World Tour as the player of the month for October.

The appointment was made through the official portal of the Professional Squash Association, where the activity of the national athlete in the competitions he played is highlighted. Let’s remember that the racket player started October with his participation in the Oracle Netsuite Open 2022.

During that contest, Diego Elías beat Faraz Khan 2-0, in the round of 16; then 2-0 against Aly Abou Eleinen, in the quarterfinals; but he stumbled in the semifinals against the Egyptian Marwan ElShorbagy: he fell 1-2, with runs of 11-13; 11-7 and 7-11.

Although the defeat was hard for the Peruvian, the duels helped him to reach the US Open (October 8), where he made history: for the first time a South American player won the title.

In that tournament, Diego Elías beat Swiss Dimitri Steinmann (3-1), French Baptiste Masotti (3-0), Welshman Joel Makin (3-0), Englishman Mohamed ElShorbagy (3-0) and, in the grand finale, beat Egyptian Ali Farag, who had to leave the match due to injury.

Then, on October 18, the Grasshopper Cup 2022 began, in which the national athlete reached the semifinals, an instance in which he lost to Marwan ElShorbagy (3-0). Before that elimination, the squash specialist had beaten Joel Makin (2-0) and Baptiste Masotti (2-1). Due to his good present, Elías ranks fifth in the world in the PSA World Tour ranking.
