Alliance Lima vs. Melgar: how the League 1 champion is defined in case of a tie

The final of the 2022 season of League 1 will be between Alianza Lima and Melgar, teams that managed to consecrate themselves in the Apertura and Clausura respectively. The definition will be in round trip matches, which generates the fans’ doubt about what will happen if the leading teams match in all aspects. Here we explain how the champion will be determined.

HOW IS THE CHAMPION OF LEAGUE 1 DEFINED?

The first criterion to define the champion between Alianza Lima vs. Melgar is the number of points in the finals: the team that wins one match and draws the other will receive the title. In the event that each club has obtained a victory, the squad that has scored the most goals will receive the trophy (away goals have no extra value).

If equality persists (also in case of ties in both matches), the duel will go directly to the penalty round. There will be no overtime.
