Sepp Blatter blames Platini for choosing Qatar to host the World Cup and admits it was a “mistake”

In the midst of public rejection by institutions, personalities and fans towards the organization of the World Cup in Qatar, the former president of FIFA, Joseph Blattergave an interview to the Tribune de Genève newspaper where he could elaborate on the backstage of how the election of the Arab country was conceived.

A few months after Blatter’s acquittal for corruption cases was known, the former president did not hesitate to blame michel platini as responsible for the election of Qatar. In addition, he assured that initially the United States was the main candidate to organize the World Cup 2022.

“The election of Qatar was a mistake and I take my responsibility because I was the president of FIFA at that time,” the former FIFA chief initially mentioned.

The thousands of deaths of workers during the construction of stadiums and infrastructures, the discriminatory laws, the size of the country, the modification of the calendars and other irregularities are what surround this World Cup event. And for Blatter there is a clear culprit. “Thanks to the four votes of Platini and his team, the World Cup went to Qatar instead of the United States, that’s the truth.”

In addition, he assured that the initial idea was for the United States to host the World Cup after Russia 2018; Well, this would mean, according to the former FIFA president, a gesture of peace.

“At the time, we actually agreed in the executive committee that Russia should have the 2018 World Cup and the United States should have the 2022 World Cup. It would have been a gesture of peace if the two longtime political opponents had organized the World Cup one later,” he concluded.
