Alianza Lima was crowned champion of the Peruvian tournament with a Peruvian coach after 47 years

More than one reason to celebrate the two-time blue and white championship. Alianza Lima is the 2022 League 1 champion after defeating Melgar in the key and one of the key pieces for it to happen were the decisions of coach Guillermo Salas. The Peruvian coach broke a curse that intimates had had for 47 years.

‘Chico’ Salas won the Peruvian championship together with Alianza Lima after being the blue and white coach for eleven games, since he took over provisionally in September 2022 after the departure of Carlos Bustos.

From there, the intimate team began to have a positive streak and after good roles in their matches, they achieved the two-time championship.

When was the last time a Peruvian coach won with Alianza?

Alianza Lima usually wins its titles with foreign coaches, be it Argentine, Uruguayan or Colombian, but this time they did it with the Peruvian ‘Chicho’ Salas. The last time the blue and white team was crowned champion with a national coach was in 1975 with Marcos Calderón.

The euphoria of Salas with Jefferson Farfán

After referee Bruno Pérez’s final whistle, the intimates began the celebrations and coach Guillermo Salas starred in a fraternal scene with Jefferson Farfán.

The euphoria was total in the Victorian club, since they managed to overcome the negative outlook of the first leg (1-0 loss) and rallied the series together with their fans. ‘Chicho’, who took over as coach after the departure of Carlos Bustos, was one of the happiest and congratulated each of his players present on the pitch.

Precisely, while greeting everyone, Guillermo Salas ran into Jefferson Farfán, who was his partner during his time as a player. The now DT exchanged a few words with the ‘Foquita’, who was obviously emotional, perhaps remembering that the last time Alianza Lima was a two-time champion was with both on the field (2003-2004).
