Paris: After the match, PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico catches a burglar in his house

The police combed the crime scene carefully to collect the slightest evidence, the slightest trace of DNA. And he sent a precious trophy to the laboratory: the thief threw his backpack while escaping.

At 3:45 pm on Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain player Sergio Rico came face to face with a mugger while returning from a match against Auxerre. The 29-year-old Spanish international who plays as a PSG goalkeeper was returning from the Parc des Princes (16th century). At 13:00 PSG have just played their last Ligue 1 game before the World Cup against Auxerre.

Face to face with mafaiteur

Arriving at his apartment in a beautiful Ottoman house located on a small street between Avenue Georges V and the Champs Elysees (VIII), the guard came face to face with the criminal. “Nothing indicates that this guy knew who Sergio Rico was,” jokes a police source. We are undoubtedly dealing with theft of opportunism.”

The football player did not understand. Excited after the game, he tried to catch his thief. Unsuccessfully. The latter, however, managed to escape empty-handed, but not without throwing a backpack containing his personal belongings in a panic.

This Monday, the investigators of the first district of the Judicial Police, who were entrusted by the Paris prosecutor’s office with continuing the investigation of the “attempted burglary”, were still on the heels of the burglar.

This is not the first time that Parisian footballers have been the victims of robberies. Sergio Rico himself was already subjected to a similar theft in January 2021. Then the player lived in Neuilly-sur-Seine in Hauts-de-Seine.

In March 2021, the Argentine PSG star Angel Di Maria came to visit. If the player was at PSG, his family was present at his home during the events. The thieves took possession of the safe and left with loot in the form of watches and jewelry worth about 500,000 euros.
