World Cup: Germany flies to Qatar on a plane in the colors of diversity

The German selection was scheduled to fly to Qatar on Monday on a plane calling for diversity to join the most controversial World Cup in history, Lufthansa said on Monday. A German carrier painted the slogan “Victory of Diversity” (“Victory of Diversity”, editor’s note) on the aircraft’s fuselage, disparaging a world-organizing nation that has been criticized by human rights and environmental advocates since its designation. Under the slogan, men and women of all nationalities are drawn, holding each other by the shoulders.

“Lufthansa brings together passengers from all countries and cultures and welcomes everyone on board, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation or race,” the group said in a statement.

The treatment of Asia-Pacific migrant workers, women and LGBTQ people, and the carbon footprint of the 2022 edition starting on Sunday, have been the subject of discussion and calls for a social media boycott.

On Sunday, German captain and Euro 2024 director Philipp Lahm, in an article published in the weekly Die Zeit, called it a “mistake” to attribute the organization of the tournament to Qatar.

“Homosexuals are still criminalized, women do not have the same rights as men, freedom of the press and freedom of speech are limited,” he said, recalling that he would not give up on the spot to watch the matches.
