Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has praised officials for the significant amount of stoppage time at the 2022 World Cup.

The World Cup is in full swing following Wales’ 1-1 draw against the US after a thrilling second day in Qatar.

Something that has stood out in the four games so far is how much stoppage time has been added to the end of each game.

In England’s 6–2 win over Iran, 13 minutes were added to the first half and 14 minutes to the second, and although there was a significant stoppage in play due to a serious head injury to Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beyranvand, it was still observed. as exaggerated.

Both Wales’ match and the Netherlands’ 2–0 win over Senegal ended with 11 minutes added time and although the opening game between Qatar and Ecuador had only five, it was still considered a lot as there was little action to be had.

This surprised many pundits and players, with several Welsh stars remarking how tired they were from playing full-time, but Carragher thinks it’s a good idea.

“Enjoy the time the officials add to it in Qatar 2022,” the former England defender wrote on Twitter.

“Too much time is wasted in football!”

As previously mentioned, England were brilliant in the opening game of the tournament with Carragher praising the performance of Gareth Southgate’s side.

“Those who claim these games are as easy as England made them seem don’t realize how much emotional baggage each player carries in the first game of the World Cup and that every game has the potential to be tough,” he wrote for The Telegraph. .

“Imagine the reaction if Brazil or Argentina score six goals in their opening game. No one will talk about the quality of the opposition.

“They will talk about how hot the favorites look for the tournament and purr about how brilliant some of the goals were. The rest of the world would see a force to be reckoned with.’
