Sensitive loss in France: Lucas Hernández misses the remainder of the World Cup in Qatar

The French team started the Qatar 2022 World Cup on the right foot, ‘Les Bleus’ thrashed Australia 4-1, on the first day of Group D. But beyond the joy, inside the Frenchmen there was concern about Lucas Hernández, who left the court due to injury, just at minute 13 of the game.

In the action prior to the Australian goal, Hernández fell on the grass when he was in front of Matthew Leckie. Doctors evaluated him and determined his exit. Hours after that, it was confirmed that the athlete suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the World Cup.

“The Bayern Munich defender will have to give up the World Cup. Lucas Hernández underwent an MRI at the Aspetar clinic after the match against Australia (4-1). Unfortunately, this examination confirmed the clinical diagnosis: rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee.”, indicated the French Football Federation.

Before knowing the official diagnosis, the French coach, Didier Deschamps, did not give good signs regarding Hernández, who was replaced by his brother Theo Hernández.

“Like the entire group, players and coaching staff, I am very sorry for Lucas. We are missing an important element. Lucas is a warrior and I have no doubt that he will do everything possible to get back on the court. First plan. I know him well: courage, he will have it, that’s for sure. On behalf of the group, I wish him the best possible recovery.”declared the strategist.

At the Al Janoub Stadium, France traced the lead against Australia and took the win, thanks to Adrien Rabiot (27′), Kylian Mbappé (68′) and Olivier Giroud (32′ and 71′), author of a double. Craig Goodwin (9′) temporarily put the ‘Socceroos’ ahead.
