Luis Enrique’s revelation: “Have we been eliminated? I would have had a heart attack.”

The Spanish team lost (2-1) at the hands of Japan this Thursday, at the close of Group E of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, but still qualified for the round of 16. Despite the achievement achieved, the ‘Red’ coach, Luis Enrique, made it clear that “No” this “glad” and that does not celebrate “defeats”.

“I’m not happy, not at all. I wanted to be first in the group; but Japan scored two goals for us in five minutes; and in ten minutes it completely overwhelmed us”Luis Enrique answered EFE at the official FIFA press conference that took place at the Al Khalifa stadium in Al Rayyan, after winning the ticket for the next round, as second in his series.

“The match started well, we controlled the first half; but then, after Morata’s goal we wanted to close the game; and it couldn’t be. We talked at halftime about being vigilant, that they were going to attack, to the fullest. But we haven’t been able to manage it.”added the selector.

Likewise, Luis Enrique confessed that he was not aware that at one point during the Qatari night -with Costa Rica’s partial victory over Germany- Spain was being eliminated from the World Cup.

“I am not aware of the other game, I am only focused on my game. I did not know, I did not know it. Yes? Was Costa Rica winning 2-1? Well fantastic. I did not know. I have not found out at any time. My speech is sincere. I have not come here to speculate. Have we been out for three minutes? Well imagine, I would have had a heart attack”indicated.

On the other hand, the Spaniard, when asked if he believed that in the second Japanese goal – reviewed by VAR – the ball had left the field before being crossed towards Ao Tanaka, scorer of the Japanese comeback goal, commented that he had seen a photo, but it didn’t seem real.

“I have seen a photo that must be faked. Or manipulated. Can not be. It can’t be that that photo is real. It is done. I have nothing to say. I have already seen that something strange happened when the VAR has taken so long ”pointed out the 52-year-old professional.
