Luis Suárez’s firm message: “Proud to be Uruguayan, even if they don’t respect us”

Luis Suárez played this Friday probably his last game in the history of the World Cups. The 35-year-old ‘Pistolero’ was a starter in the Uruguayan team, which beat Ghana 2-0 at the close of Group H, but the result was not enough to qualify for the round of 16 in Qatar 2022.

Hours after the outcome, Suárez used his Instagram account and other social networks to continue regretting the elimination. In the publication, the striker also left a hint, perhaps against arbitration, after not sanctioning more than one penalty in favor of ‘Celeste’.

Saying goodbye to a World Cup like that hurts a lot, but we have the peace of mind that we left everything for our country. Proud to be Uruguayan, even if they don’t respect us”wrote the athlete, who also participated in the World Cup in South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018.

Likewise, ‘Lucho’ thanked the Uruguayan fans for the support received throughout the contest. “Thanks to each of the Uruguayans who supported us in every part of the world”, put the historical scorer of the Uruguayan team, with 68 annotations.

After the engagement, Luis Suárez expressed to Telemundo his sadness over Uruguay’s goodbye. “I am disappointed, sadly, it makes you angry. Go to the limit and respond like we did today. We are self-critical. We weren’t up to the task in the first two games, but today is a day to reflect on the fact that we gave our best in this game. We had to win. We did it and we depended on another result. But we got to this point on our own and it is sadness and disappointment that we feel today.”he mused.

The team led by Diego Alonso finished the series third with four points, the same figure as the second South Korea, who went to the next round, thanks to having scored more goals than the South Americans (four against two).
