President of the Mexican Federation and his unusual explanation for the homophobic shouts during the match against Saudi Arabia

The Mexican team beat Saudi Arabia 2-1, however, it was eliminated from the group stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup due to goal difference. After the duel, Gerardo Martino announced his departure from the technical direction of the Aztec team, however, the problems continue for the ‘Tri’ due to a FIFA investigation.

The Disciplinary Commission of the football governing body opened a file against the Mexican Football Federation due to the homophobic shouts by the fans of the American team during the second half of the match against the Asian cast. This was confirmed by Yon De Luisa, who is the president of the FMF.

“Today we received confirmation of this investigation that FIFA is going to do. We will wait for the leading times as happened in previous matches and we will wait to see what the resolution is.”he said at a press conference.

However, the president of the Mexican Soccer Federation surprised with an unusual explanation. The manager pointed out that judge Michael Oliver had some responsibility for not admonishing Mohammed Al-Owais, who is the goalkeeper for Saudi Arabia.

“We have worked with FIFA and Concacaf hand in hand with them to prevent (the appearance of the cry). It seems to me that he managed to control very well during the first two games and practically in the entire third game. We think that if there had been a yellow for the goalkeeper in one of the many times that he made time, surely the cry would not have existed. The fans behaved in an exemplary manner, it was that detail at the end of the last game” explained.

It is worth mentioning that the CONCACAF authorities and Mexican soccer players have spent years trying to get Aztec fans to abandon this mania of chanting a homophobic insult every time the rival goalkeeper kicks off the goal. However, the followers ignore it and continue, despite the warnings.
