Georgina Rodríguez, Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner, has berated Portugal coach Fernando Santos after Saturday’s surprise World Cup defeat to Morocco.

Morocco became the first African country in history to progress to the semi-finals after Youssef En-Nesyri delivered a powerful header to victory.

This was most likely Ronaldo’s last World Cup game and the 37-year-old ended it in tears as he raced through the tunnel after playing full-time.

The legendary striker started the game on the bench as Santos fielded the same starting eleven that defeated Switzerland 6-1 in the round of 16 a few days earlier.

The ex-Manchester United player came on to equalize after 50 minutes, but apart from a fine stoppage time, he had little influence on the game as Morocco defended brilliantly against a wasteful Portugal.

The decision to drop Ronaldo for Switzerland was controversial but effective, so it was understandable that Santos made the same call, but that didn’t stop those closest to the player from slapping the manager.

“Today your friend and coach made the wrong decision,” Rodríguez wrote on Instagram.

“That friend for whom you have so many words of admiration and respect. The same one who put you on the field, saw everything change, but it was too late.

“You cannot underestimate the best player in the world, his greatest weapon. Much less should one stand up for those who do not deserve it.

Life teaches us lessons. Today we don’t lose, we learn. We admire you.”

Rodríguez had previously criticized Ronaldo’s sacking and late substitution against Switzerland, as did his sister Elma Aveiro: “I don’t know why and I don’t understand, but I’m sure we’ll get the answers from God later.” he doesn’t fail, let’s see.’
