Wesley Fofana suffered another injury during Tuesday’s friendly match between Chelsea and Brentford.
The Blues and the Bees met in a game behind closed doors as they prepare for their return to the Premier League after the World Cup break.
While it was intended to get players back on track, it has done the opposite for Fofana, who has been sidelined by injury, football.London reports.
The 22-year-old has not played since October following a knee injury and his recovery has taken a hit, although the seriousness of the recent problem is not yet clear.
The Frenchman has made just two Premier League appearances for the Blues since joining from Leicester City this summer for a £70 million entry fee.
The centre-back has already missed a lot of football in his young career, making just seven Premier League appearances for Leicester in the 2021/22 season due to a broken leg.
Blues fans will hope his recent troubles won’t keep him out for long when he returns to the Premier League at home in Bournemouth on Tuesday, December 27, before heading to Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day.
The World Cup break broke Chelsea’s poor run of results in November, but they need to get back into shape as they return after losing their last three games before the tournament in Qatar.
The poor run of results left the Blues eighth in the Premier League and Graham Potter was already under pressure following his takeover at Stamford Bridge in September.
