Ligue 1: Nice sack Lucien Favre

Confirmed in November, Lucien Favre is no longer the coach of OGC Nice. According to our information, the management of the gym decided to fire their coach this Monday after the Riviera team’s infamous elimination in the 32nd Coupe de France final on Saturday night against Puy (1-0), the 16th National.

This is the second defeat in a row, after it suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Rennes championship on January 2, which ultimately turned out to be too much for the technician. Didier Digard, one of his assistants and former reserve team coach (N3), will take charge on Wednesday against Montpellier.

Lucien Favre has been disappointing since his return in place of Christophe Galtier. Aside from relegation to the Coupe de France, Aiglons only list 11th in Ligue 1 after 17 days. The Swiss coach no longer seemed to have the necessary leverage to straighten the slope, while internally defined profiles were already being studied for next season. Already in September, the board of “Nice” seriously considered the issue of parting with him. Among the coaches interviewed at the time was former Parisian Mauricio Pochettino.

This information came a few hours after the dismissal of Julien Stéphane from RC Strasbourg. This brings the number of managers sacked in L1 since the start of this season to nine, with four clubs relegated to League 2 at the end of this season.
