VIDEO. “Victor, you are in my heart”: between hysteria and euphoria, Vembanyam overwhelms Levallois

The tension ended with a furious dunk from Victor Wembanyama. At the age of just 19, the French basketball prodigy once again allowed his Mets 92 team to defeat their then-rival ASVEL (84-83). “It’s a phenomenon, it’s in my heart,” exclaims Stevie, who was in attendance this Monday evening. The French, as well as fans from all over the world, come to the Palais des Sports of Marseille-Cerdan in Levallois-Perret to see the game of the future world basketball star.

“He can shoot three points, he can pass, he can block, he can do anything,” enthuses Daniel, an American fan of the French player. “In the US, everyone is waiting for him, (…) he is the best player since LeBron James,” said the Philadelphia native. In a few months, the 2.21m basketball player could well become the first Frenchman to be selected first in the NBA Draft, a draw that selects young players to enter the prestigious North American league.

Wemby, as the Americans have affectionately dubbed it, has it all. His T-shirts are selling out just like tickets to his matches. “He makes us dream and he makes kids dream,” insists Serhat, who leads the Metropolitans 92 supporter group. “We’ll miss him when he’s in the NBA (…), but he made us vibrate.”
