André Carrillo: Why didn’t you start with Cristiano Ronaldo and how did you play against PSG?

We all wanted to see Andre Carrillo with his talent enabling Cristiano Ronaldo, marking his band against the attacks of Kylian Mbappé and why not, celebrating a goal in the duel between PSG vs. Riyadh Season. But none of that happened. The Peruvian entered in the 61st minute of the game when CR7 was substituted in the Arab team and when Lionel Messi and Mbappé came out in the French.

But André Carrillo had another role in the meeting. He entered for the closing of the game, when all the great figures were not on the field. His task was to try to equalize the match, which was down 4-3 when he entered.

Finally the match ended with a 5-4 victory for PSG. André Carrillo had a chance to score, but his cross shot went wide of him when he crossed the entire six-yard box without anyone being able to push it.

Why was Carrillo not a starter?

Marcelo Gallardo was the coach of Riyadh Season, the team made up of the team between Al Hilal and Al Nassr. The Argentine did not take André Carrillo into account for his initial training.

In attack, Riyadh Season formed with ‘Pity’ Martínez, Salem Al Dawsari, Moussa Marega and Cristiano Ronaldo. in a fairly clear 4-4-2. When Al Hilal, led by Ramón Díaz, also tends to use that system, and André Carrillo always has spaces.

In Al Hilal, Marega or Ighalo together with Luciano Vietto are usually the attackers, leaving André Carrillo on the right flank and Al Dawsari on the left.

In the Riyadh Season, Gallardo formed with Gonzalo Martínez (Al Nassr) on the left and placed Al Dawsari on the right side, taking André Carrillo’s place. The ‘Doll’ privileged the presence of Pity, the player he directed at River Plate, when they won the Libertadores over Boca Juniors, and also favored Al Dawsari, the best player in Saudi Arabia, featured in the Arab victory over Argentina in the past World Cup Qatar 2022.

At halftime, Gallardo brought in Anderson Talisca, the Brazilian who plays 9 for Al Nassr, for Marega. The other change was on the right side. There was no system change, so Carrillo was still waiting on the bench.

Only in the 60th minute was he able to enter, when PSG also decided to change practically half of his eleventh. With the changes, Carrillo for Martínez, André played for the right attack and Al Dawsari went on to cover the left that left the Pity free. While Matheus Pereira replaced Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Portuguese went on to play in the midfielder. Thus, the attack was formed by Al Dawsari, Carrillo and Talisca, as in Al Hilal.

The Peruvian attacker had only one chance to score, but he could not take advantage of it. He played half an hour and did not gravitate much in a game that by that time had already decreased in intensity due to the number of changes.

A great experience for André Carrillo, who trained with Cristiano Ronaldo in recent days and was able to share with him before the match and thus was registered on his social networks.
