Mike Tyson faces new rape allegation

Former US boxing champion Mike Tyson is accused by a civil lawsuit woman of raping her in a limousine in the early 1990s near New York City, court document says.

The man, considered one of the best heavyweights of all time, had already been found guilty in 1992 of raping 18-year-old model Desiree Washington at the time of the events. He then spent three years behind bars.

Thirty years later, a woman who wished to remain anonymous during the proceedings because she feared “attacks from the media and all the fans” of Mike Tyson filed a “rape” complaint in Albany County Civil Court in early January. She is seeking $5 million in damages.

Physical and psychological consequences

The procedure was made possible by a New York State law that went into effect at the end of November that allows victims of sexual assault to file in civil court without fear of statute of limitations for one year.

In a brief statement dated 23 December 2022, attached to the case file, the complainant claims that she met the boxer “in the early 1990s” at a nightclub and then followed him in his limousine, where he assaulted her to the point of raping her. her.

Mike Tyson was born in Brooklyn in 1966. As a child and teenager, he was a petty criminal before becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion in the 1980s, terrifying his opponents with his ring rage and phenomenal punching power.

But after prison, Mike Tyson fails to retain his titles, in particular, in 1996 he was defeated by Evander Holyfield during a memorable match in which he bit his opponent’s ears until they bled. Overwhelmed by depression and addictions, he continued to make people talk about himself, in particular by acting in a one-man show where he talks about his ups and downs.

In November 2020, he returned to the ring at the age of 54 against Roy Jones Jr (51) in a draw.
