Erik ten Hag insists Manchester United don’t need Casemiro in the squad to play well, but admits the midfielder has a “huge influence” on the squad.

The Brazilian has been suspended for United’s next four home games for his second red card of the season, which he received against Southampton last weekend.

Real Madrid’s summer signing has been a great signing for the Red Devils this season and a regular in the starting eleven when available.

However, Ten Hag contradicted the suggestion that United should do without the 31-year-old, despite acknowledging the impact he has on the team.

“We have played many more games without Casemiro,” Ten Hag said at a press conference when asked about the midfielder’s absence. We’ve done really well without Casemiro.

“Against Arsenal, those two against Leeds, I remember all the games and I think we did really well without Casemiro at the start of the season.

“I want Casemiro to be available because he has a huge impact on our game.

“We have also won many games without Casemiro and have to be satisfied with other players. It’s about the available players.”

Fellow midfielders Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are injured, forcing the likes of Scott McTominay and Marcel Sabitzer to replace Casemiro while he is absent.

His suspension will begin on Sunday with a home game against Fulham in the FA Cup, followed by Premier League encounters with Newcastle, Brentford and Everton.
