Paris Saint-Germain 0-2 Rennes: “The team is putting everything in, their heart and soul,” Gianluigi Donnarumma pleads.

History repeats itself. For the second time this season, Paris lost to Rennes this Sunday, March 19, at the Parc des Princes. A logical defeat for Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partners, who will have to put their heads back in their place once they return from the international break. The Italian goalkeeper is the only Parisian to stop in the mixed zone. He just had his fourth game in a row, failing to keep his clean sheet.

How do you explain this defeat?

Gianluigi Donnarumma. It was a difficult match, we lacked many players, but we are not looking for excuses. In these kinds of matches, we must play better, we must win, especially for all those who support us, who are always behind us. Now we are going to move on to selection. After that, we will have to do everything to find our best level.

What did you say to each other in the dressing room after the match?

We are all disappointed, we were upset. You have to think about the team, what you can do better and what you need to improve. This time things didn’t go very well, but after the break we will try to perform well in all matches.

We don’t feel like a riot anymore, this is the 7th defeat in 2023, in 17 games…

That’s the way it is, we have to accept it. We need to get better at games. We have to get better in terms of character and intensity… We have quality, but we lack it. We must improve these points. I am not happy that we have suffered so many defeats, but we must look ahead and do everything to become better.

Are you worried about the end of the season?

We want to earn as many points as possible. We need to win the championship, we need it. This is not an easy task, and it has not yet been done.

In the daily life of PSG in training, do you see such character and such intensity?

All workouts are high-intensity, we try our best to reproduce them in matches. In some game situations it can be difficult, we need to improve it. The team invests everything, invests its heart, its soul. We all do our best.

Paris haven’t lost at the Parc des Princes in the league for nearly two years. This defeat comes shortly after relegation in the Champions League, does that mean this team is still suffering?

Of course, it affected us a little. We wanted to do well, we wanted to win and continue on our way to the Champions League. But we need to collect our thoughts, because the championship is not over yet. Now we are going to the selection and then we will have to come back stronger.
