“We are not going to underestimate Peru at all. Reynoso successfully continues the work of his predecessor ”| INTERVIEW

After almost five years, the peruvian team will face Germany again, in a match that will be played this Saturday, March 25 at the Mewa Arena Stadium, located in the city of Mainz, at 2:45 p.m. (Peruvian time).

In September 2018, it was the date when Peru faced Germany, whose final score was 2-1 in favor of the Teutonic team, which that opportunity was led by Joachim Löw. Now, on the bench is Hansi Flick’s, who did not have a good participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where his boys were eliminated in the first round for having a worse goal difference than Spain and thus for the second consecutive time in a World Cup. Mundo said goodbye to him in the first phase.

For this reason, the match against Peru will be the beginning of a new era and in the German Federation, the directors trust that Hansi Flick, through his work, can turn the situation around and that is why they ratified their trust.

Through the press area of the German team, El Comercio was able to have a brief contact with Hansi Flick’s, the German coach, to address three topics: Peru, this afternoon’s rival, how South American football is viewed from Europe and how the replacement process in the four-time world champion team (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014).

-What concept do you have of Peru today, post Russia 2018?

Peru is a great rival. The international match against Peru marks the beginning of our path towards Euro 2024 to be held in Germany. We are all very excited about this tournament in our land.

-Why did you choose Peru? Do you think it is the ideal rival to measure the level of demand and prepare your team in official competitions?

We are very happy that the long winter break is finally over and that we will have the opportunity to show that we are capable of playing much better than in Qatar 2022. That is the goal. Peru is exactly the right opponent for it. Peru will challenge us with their passionate football, with a lot of energy, from the first second.

-What do you know about the team that Juan Máximo Reynoso leads today?

Under the direction of coach Ricardo Gareca, the Peruvian team has achieved great success in recent years and only narrowly missed out on qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar. Juan Reynoso continues the successful work of his predecessor, and with his approach, let’s say, with another cut and rather defensive, Peru has won its last three friendly matches. Therefore, we are not going to underestimate Peru at all.

-Germany is a clear favorite to beat Peru by a wide score?

The most important thing will be that we play with passion and dedication to excite our fans. This is the path to success. Germany is in that process today.

-How do you imagine this Saturday’s game with Peru? Very tactical? With a lot of vertigo?

We have to be very alert and play with determination from the beginning, we can’t afford anything else against a team like Peru. At the same time we want to take advantage of the upcoming international matches to invite some new players, give them space so that they can show their potential in our environment. Every game on the road to Euro 2024 is hugely important to find our best team.
