Ian Wright praised Aaron Ramsdale for ‘saving’ Arsenal at Anfield and says his exploits against Liverpool could be crucial in the Premier League title race.

Ramsdale made some important saves to limit the damage for Arsenal, who led by two goals but were pushed back by Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Premier League leaders got off to an excellent start to Sunday’s game, scoring twice in the first 28 minutes through Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

But Mohamed Salah scored for the hosts before the break and Liverpool dominated the second half, with Roberto Firmino’s late header taking some of the scoring.

Things would have been even worse for Arsenal if it weren’t for the inspired Ramsdale, who denied Salah, Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate to ensure the Gunners avoided defeat.

“I love Aaron Ramsdale,” said Wright on BBC’s Match of the Day 2. “If Arsenal win the title, it’s because of these saves.

“With those chances in the second half, we could have easily lost that game. If you want to win trophies, you need a top goalkeeper, and he is a top goalkeeper.

“He saved us today, he absolutely saved us.”

Although Arsenal failed to restore their eight-point lead over title rivals Manchester City, Wright believes the Gunners “should be happy” with a point against Liverpool.

Arsenal’s last league win at Anfield came in 2012 when current manager Mikel Arteta took center stage in midfield.

“I’m very happy with this result,” added Gunners legend Wright.

“A lot of teams go to Anfield to fight. We should be happy with that point, we should take that and be pretty happy.”

Arteta applauded Ramsdale after the thrilling draw at Anfield, describing his performance as “superior”.

A number of pundits questioned Arsenal’s £30 million transfer to Ramsdale in 2021, but the former Sheffield United goalkeeper exceeded North London expectations and established himself as one of the Premier League’s best shot stoppers.

“He was fantastic again today,” said Arteta. “You need your goalkeeper at Anfield.

“It’s a pity that we couldn’t win after our start. The big lesson is in the first half when they came here and played with this personality.

Arsenal, who last won the Premier League in 2004, will continue their title fight against London rivals West Ham this weekend.
