Marcus Rashford says he is working “hard” to return “as soon as possible” after Manchester United announced the striker will miss the next few games with a groin injury.

The England striker hobbled out of United’s 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday after injuring his groin while stretching from a through ball.

Rashford immediately signaled the bench to pull away, indicating that the injury was serious.

Scan results showed Rashford strained his groin and, while United were unwilling to put a timetable on his absence, they said he would miss the “next few games”.

United are facing a hectic end to the season, with Erik ten Hag’s side playing in the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup for the next two weeks alone.

Rashford has scored 28 goals this season and his absence is a major blow to United’s hopes of being lifted into the trophy cabinet before the end of the season.

But Rashford has sent fans a message of hope, revealing he is “working hard” with the club’s physio to return “soon”.

In response to United’s tweet about his injury, Rashford said: “I’m working hard with physios to be back as soon as possible!

‘See you soon.’

United will meet Sevilla tonight at Old Trafford in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.

Anthony Martial is expected to make his first start since returning from injury.

It could be a front three of Antony, Martial and Jadon Sancho, although Wout Weghorst is also in the race.
