Chilavert will not be president: he took less than 1% in the Paraguayan elections

Jose Luis Chilavert won less than 1% in the elections for the presidency of Paraguayanfar from the 42% of the votes obtained by Santiago Peña, from the Colorado Party, who won on Sunday by a wide margin and will be the next Paraguayan president.

The renowned former goalkeeper of the Paraguayan team and of Vélez Sarsfield only had 0.8% of the votes at 99.9% of the polling stations.

Chilavert, who retired in 2004 and is now 57 years old, was a candidate for the Fuerza Joven Youth Party. Despite being recognized internationally, in his first bid for the presidency, he also did not have enough support in previous polls.

In June of last year, he presented his independent candidacy for the internal elections in December. His political project included strengthening education, improving health, maintaining macroeconomic stability, improving the energy sector and addressing insecurity in the country, proposals that did not reach the population.
