Erling Haaland breaks Premier League goalscoring record

Manchester City beat West Ham 3-0 at their home ground on Wednesday (15th) in a late match on matchday 28 of the championship, regaining the lead and with attacker Erling Haaland reaching 35 goals scored, an absolute Premier League record .

With his goal in the 71st minute, the Norwegian Haaland became the best scorer in a Premier League season, all formats included, after equaling the previous mark of 34 goals last Sunday at Fulham (2-1 victory).

His goal, which made it 2-0, served to surpass Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who had scored 34 with Newcastle in 1993-1994 and with Blackburn the following season, when the English elite had 22 teams and 42 games , instead of with the 20 teams and 38 days of the current format.

The Dutch defender Nathan Aké (50) led Pep Guardiola’s pupils to victory after going through the changing rooms and the Englishman Phil Foden (85) closed the scoring in the final minutes.

City thus adds the three points for a total of 79 and recovers the top of the table, to the detriment of Arsenal (2nd, 78 points) who beat Chelsea (3-1) the day before but who, in addition to the disadvantage by one point they have played one game more than the Citizens.

With nine consecutive victories, including the 4-1 defeat of Arsenal, Manchester City continues the march with a firm step towards its third consecutive English title. The season could be a dream for Manchester’s blue side, with the team qualifying for the Champions League semi-finals and the FA Cup final on the horizon (June 3).
