Paris 2024: Athletics ticketing coding bug sparks anger

This time, it is not the price of seats that is called into question, but their content. Eight athletics classes listed for sale on the Paris 2024 Games ticket sales website did not meet the scheduled schedule. Some buyers have chosen their session specifically to see the end of the decathlon, the 100m final or the pole vault, but may end up choosing completely different disciplines.

Tony Estanguet, director of Paris 2024, acknowledged this mistake: “We realized that there were mistakes in eight athletics sessions. At the second stage of ticket sales, more than 760 screenings are on sale. There was a programming error in these eight athletics sessions because the calendar had changed and was not updated. »

Very strong athletes

Some French athletes have launched an alert on their social media. This is the case of Jimmy Gressier. The European record holder for the five kilometers said on his Instagram account: “Relatives told me that they bought tickets for a certain discipline, for example, 5000 m, and due to a scheduling error, they are getting a session that they did not want. They wanted to see the 5000m and will find they have to see the 200m or the javelin. »

Alice Fino, steeplechase CA Montreuil 93, added a layer also aimed at the price of the seats: “If they want to be expensive, they must at least be of good quality! It is unacceptable to make a mistake in the checkout schedule. » Tony Estangue promised to “find a solution” and assured the committee would “deal with this with great care and rigor”. »
