PSG goalkeeper in serious condition after falling from a horse

Sergio RicoPSG goalkeeper, is hospitalized “in serious condition” after suffering a fall from a horse in his native Andalusia, the Parisian club reported this Sunday.

“Sergio fell off a horse. He is in serious condition, ”explained a PSG spokesman, the day after the Parisian club celebrated a new Ligue 1 title in Strasbourg, a game that Rico watched on the substitute bench. However, the Spanish newspaper Marca reported that the Red international is in a “stable” situation.

Victim of a head injury when he was participating in a pilgrimage in Huelva (southwest), Rico was evacuated by helicopter to the Vírgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville, where he is admitted and under respiratory assistance, reported the Andalusian public television Canal Sur.

After Saturday’s game in Strasbourg, Rico traveled to his country to participate this Sunday in the traditional Rocío Pilgrimage, various media reported.

The Spanish agency EFE reported for its part that according to sources in the player’s family, Rico did not fall from a horse, but was kicked by one of the animals participating in the pilgrimage.

Coming from Sevilla FC, Rico arrived at PSG in 2019 and since then has played 29 games for the French team, although he has almost always had a substitute role, first for Costa Rican Keylor Navas and since last season for Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma.

That substitution led him to play on loan at Mallorca for the second part of last season.
