Pope Francis asks that fear not close the doors “to the foreigner, to the different”

He Pope Francisco asked today not to be carried away by the fear that makes the doors close “the other, the foreigner, the different, the one who thinks differently”.

In his message during the prayer of Regina Coeli celebrated in the st peter’s square The Pope reflected on the reading of the Gospel today about the fear of the apostles.

He pointed “that sometimes, because of a difficult situation, because of some personal or family problem, because of the suffering we suffer or because of the evil that we breathe around us, we run the risk of gradually losing hope and (… ) we close in on ourselves, entrenching ourselves in the labyrinth of worries”.

Leaning out the window of the pontifical palace Francisco added that this fearblocks, paralyzes and isolates“and then he spoke of fear”towards the other, the foreigner, the different, the one who thinks differently”.

If we give space to these false fears, the doors are closed: those of the heart, those of society, and even the doors of the Church! Where there is fear, there is closure. And that’s not right”, he added after the Regina Coeli prayer, which in this period replaces the traditional Angelus.

Francis then said thatthe Gospel, however, offers us the remedy of risen: he Holy Spirit. He frees from the prisons of fear”.

Faced with fears and closures, then, let us invoke the Holy Spirit for ourselves, for the Church and for the whole world: so that a new Pentecost drive away the fears that assail us and rekindle the fire of God’s love”, he added.
